The legal structure that makes this possible
Arizona is the first U.S. state to allow Alternative Business Structures (ABS) — entities that may be partly owned by non-lawyers and that may deliver legal services. The framework was established by the Arizona Supreme Court's Administrative Order R-20-0034 (effective January 1, 2021), which eliminated the prior rules against non-lawyer ownership and fee-sharing.
Doctrine Legal operates under that framework. Our ABS license application is currently pending with the Arizona Supreme Court. Until the license is granted, all legal services on this platform are delivered exclusively by AZ-barred attorneys under a Compliance Lawyer engagement model.
The Compliance Lawyer model
Every matter is assigned to a Compliance Lawyer: an Arizona-barred attorney who personally reviews the AI-prepared drafts, makes any required corrections, and signs the final work product. The Compliance Lawyer maintains professional responsibility for the legal work. Doctrine Legal provides the technology, intake, and operational support — we do not provide legal advice.
Where we file
- Bankruptcy: U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Arizona (CM/ECF e-filing).
- Wills & estate: documents are execution-ready; we provide notary and witness guidance. No court filing required at execution.
- Divorce: AZ Superior Court in the petitioner's county (Maricopa, Pima, Pinal, Yavapai, etc.) via AZTurboCourt where available.
Money-back guarantee
If we determine your matter is not a fit for our service at any point before your attorney review begins, we refund your full service fee, no questions asked. If the assigned Compliance Lawyer declines to sign your documents for any substantive reason, your fee is fully refunded.
What we do not do
- Contested litigation, trial work, or court appearances
- Matters outside Arizona
- Criminal defense, immigration, or complex tax matters
- Business formation, IP, or transactional commercial work
